We are now officially in the second half of 2020 and the University, including our staff, are beginning to transition back on campus. Despite the the rainy weather today as we approach the middle of winter, we look forward to the opportunity to hold events and activities face-to-face in the not the distant future.
Happy Dragon Boat Festival everyone! 端午节快乐 ! Yesterday was a special day in the Chinese calendar and our team came together to eat sticky rice dumplings (粽子 Zongzi) and celebrate. We have also just released a workshop video on youtube so you can learn the history of this festival and how to make Zongzi at home! In the morning we ran an online workshop with students from the Arts Faculty. The students learnt about the festival and together we created beautiful Chinese knotted keychains using a special knot called 'pingjie' (平结).

Friday has rolled around quickly again! With restrictions beginning to ease across the state and as we adjust to a new kind of normal in SA, we hope you are still keeping safe and well as winter approaches, but also enjoying your days that little bit more!
Some of you may have noticed each week we feature a new image from China as the header to this newsletter. While travel restrictions are in place we would love you to share with us your favourite scenic China travel photo along with a brief description so we can feature it in our newsletter. Simply email it through us!
Yesterday we wrapped up our UN Chinese language day program with our final event. Thank you everyone who joined our 'China Ready' Webinar, presented together with the Australia China Youth Association's Adelaide chapter. It was fantastic to see the huge amount of interest this webinar generated, even with the current restrictions on travel and going abroad. We remain optimistic for the future and regardless of the circumstances feel a better understanding and willingness to learn about other cultures is always relevant. If you missed it we are hoping to release a recording soon.
