New Online Content

Last week we closed our on campus office for the safety of our staff and students.

We hope you are all keeping healthy, working or studying from home, and keeping your spirits high.

During this challenging time our team have quickly developed a range of online resources to keep engaged with Chinese language and culture from the comfort of your own home!

Chinese Conversation Corner
Chinese Conversation Corner goes online

Tuesdays & Fridays 4:00-5:00 pm

Our FREE conversation corner is now running online via Zoom.
After a successful trial this past week, we will now run our full program from next week onwards.

Tuesday's session is for any general help you need, or join us Friday's for a lesson prepared by our volunteers.

This is a fantastic opportunity to practice your Chinese with a native speaker while also making new friends.

To celebrate the United Nations Chinese Language Day on April 20th, we will release a series of events in the weeks surrounding this date.

We are partnering with the Children's University to release online activities for kids during the school holidays. Towards the end of April we will host a live online Taichi workshop to help you get up and moving while at home. In early May we are teaming up with ACYA (Australia China Youth Association) to host a live 'China Ready' webinar with special guest speakers who will be discussing the essential aspects of life in China and Australia in terms of culture, language and business.

This year we will be offering FREE preparation courses for those studying or interested in studying the HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) Chinese proficiency test. The HSK preparation class will now operate online via Zoom.

This course is designed to:

  • build up students' confidence and interest in learning Mandarin Chinese
  • acquire HSK study methods and effective test-taking strategies
  • familiarise yourself with the types of questions asked in the HSK exams.

Cultural Workshops
Our cultural workshops are now moving online

Our workshops are a great way to entertain your children or explore your own creative side. They are a fantastic way of doing something hands on, while also experiencing the many different aspects of Chinese culture.

Shortly on offer will be instructional videos for doing tie dye, paper cutting, Chinese knotting and martial arts at home. Further details to follow as these roll out in the coming weeks.

SA Bushfire Appeal
Fundraiser success

Our community fundraising activities supporting the SA Bushfire appeal wrapped up last month. Our team of volunteers created beautiful handmade Chinese knotted bracelets which were sold at multiple community and university events over the last few months. We sold close to 200 bracelets and managed to raise nearly $1000. We would like to thank our volunteers for their contributions as well as the community for supporting with your purchases. All funds have been directly donated to the SA Bushfire Appeal.

Covid-19 Updates

The University is closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation, and our response is being shaped by the latest advice from Australian health and foreign affairs authorities. For further information visit the universities designated page here.
