Moon Lantern Trail

Lanterns

An OzAsia Festival favourite, the much-loved Moon Lantern Parade is upgrading in 2021 from a one-night event to span four-full days of celebrations!

Starting at Adelaide Festival Centre Precinct and lighting a path to Pinky Flat, the newly imagined Moon Lantern Trail promises an exciting new experience for families across the festival’s opening weekend.

This interactive spectacle guides audiences through the stories, histories and traditions of Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations from across Asia. Wander along at your own pace to discover more than 20 lanterns along the riverbank, including the popular 40 metre long Hong Kong Dragon. All four nights will feature lanterns lighting up at 7.30pm and giant puppets Rama and Sita roving through the trail from 8pm.

On the weekend, the trail will be complemented by a range of roving performances and workshops from midday such as calligraphy, lantern making, weaving and more (workshops subject to capacity).

Celebrating harvest, family gatherings and the moon, this year’s Moon Lantern Trail will be beautiful to explore during the day and truly spectacular at night.

Come see your favourite parade lanterns in a whole new light!

While the Moon Lantern Trail is free to attend, registrations are encouraged. Be sure to pre-register your attendance day and time to guarantee admission along with priority queueing and faster check-in during your visit.
