China Ready Webinar

To celebrate UN Chinese Language day, The Confucius Institute at The University of Adelaide together with ACYA (Australia China Youth Association) will be hosting a live webinar featuring several guest speakers who will discuss the relevant aspects of Chinese language, culture, business and study opportunities as they relate to those with a keen interest in China. There will be an opportunity for questions at the end.

Get to know the panel of speakers below:

Dr Ning Zhang: Deputy Dean International, Faculty of Arts, University of Adelaide. Director, Confucius Institute, University of Adelaide. Program Coordinator of MA (ITTC), University of Adelaide.

Ning Zhang came to Australia as an international student in 1985. She studied and worked in Queensland before coming to Adelaide to take up an academic career. Her research areas are educational development and Chinese language teaching. Ning has rich experience and expert knowledge in the curriculum development of Chinese language teaching in schools and universities. Ning coordinates the Master of Arts (Interpreting, Translation and Transcultural Communication) program with the School of Social Sciences, Faculty of Arts. She has contributed immensely to the University’s internationalisation, and received the PVCI’s Excellence Award in 2018. Ning is also active in community service and engagement, a part of the University of Adelaide’s strategy for future making in the 21st Century. In April 2020 she also stepped into the role of Deputy Dean International for the Faculty of Arts. 

Mr Tony Zheng: Manager of International Development and Partnerships, Career Services, University of Adelaide

Tony holds a Master degree in Computer Science from the University of Adelaide, he has an in-depth understanding of the employment challenges facing international students. Tony is passionate about providing international students with career development support to facilitate their pathway to employment both in Australia and overseas. In 2015, Tony designed and developed the successful China Career Ready Plus (CCR+) program which was the first of its kind in Australia. Tony’s personal experience plus his extensive network of employer contacts in China and Australia are vital to the success of the program. His role focuses on strengthening industry relationships with the university in order to create opportunities for students.

Mr Bayan Yazdani: Studying BPsych(Hons.), BA, BLitt. at Flinders University, Translations Officer at ACYA and President ACYA Taipei.

After high school, Bayan spent a year and a half in Shanghai teaching English and learning Mandarin at Shanghai Jiaotong University. During this time, he had the opportunity to volunteer with an English teaching organisation called SteppingStones, and travelled to many different parts of China. In his second year of university, he went to Hong Kong on exchange and learnt more about the diversity of Chinese culture and dialects. Last year he was successful in being selected as a finalist to participate in the Chinese Bridge Mandarin Proficiency Competition, travelling to Beijing and Changsha in China. There he had the opportunity to meet students from around the world who all shared a common interest in Chinese culture and language.

Mr Daniel Webb: Studying Bachelor of Laws/Bachelor of Arts (Politics & International Relations/Chinese Studies) at the University of Adelaide, Secretary of ACYA Adelaide

Daniel learnt Chinese Mandarin at high school and university here in Adelaide. In 2017 he was selected as a finalist to participate in the Chinese Bridge Mandarin Proficiency Competition in China, before spending a semester on exchange at Tsinghua University in Beijing and travelling extensively throughout China.
