Welcome to the Confucius InstituteThe Confucius Institute at the University of Adelaide promotes the learning of Chinese language and culture, a broader and more informed understanding of China, both across South Australia and beyond. We seek to build understanding of Chinese culture among any interested groups, increase China-knowledge generally, strengthen language teaching and help Australians to build or strengthen their economic and business links with China. Officially launched in March 2007 by the then Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs the Hon. Alexander Downer, the establishment of the Confucius Institute with Shandong University consolidates longstanding ties with the University of Adelaide and coincides with the twentieth anniversary of the Sister State relationship between South Australia and Shandong Province.
Educating to Shape the Future Presently located in the Centre for Asian Studies, the School of Social Sciences, the Institute will eventually be accommodated in a prominent custom-built facility on North Terrace. However, the Institute and the Centre for Asian Studies will continue to work as one to promote the study of Chinese and better understandings of China. In the long term we expect that this site and the Confucius Institute at the University of Adelaide will become the natural first point of reference for anyone seeking information about Chinese language, Chinese culture and China-related advice and services. To keep up with all the news and events from the Confucius Institute join the Friends of the Confucius Institute Mailing List.
