A delegation of the Provincial government of Shandong, China, headed by Mr Zhang Chuanlin, Vice Chairman of Shandong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference has visited the Confucius Institute at the University of Adelaide. On the 10th of September 2009, the CI hosted a reception held in honour of David Reid, an Australian artist who discovered the art and beauty of painting with Chinese ink on Chinese paper. The main sponsor of the event was Macquarie Private Wealth.
More than 90 guests attended the reception, among which were representatives of the art world, personal friends of the artist and people with a vested interest in Chinese art in general.

On July 11 and 12, 2009, the Confucius Institute at The University of Adelaide hosted the 15th annual National Conference of the Chinese Language Teachers organized by the Chinese Language Teachers Federation of Australia (CLTFA). Over 175 primary, secondary and university Chinese language teachers from all over Australia, native-Chinese speakers and non-native speakers, attended the conference where topics such as “Perspectives on teacher background in Chinese language education” and “Catering for learner diversity in the classroom”,“Survival tips from a new teacher”, “Formative assessment in first language teaching”,”Bilingual immersion is the best option for Rudd’s 2020 vision” and “Assessing Intercultural language learning” were presented and discussed in multiple plenary sessions and 34 workshops over the two-days conference.

18 high school students from SA, WA, QLD and ACT competed in these National preliminary finals of the Chinese speaking competition organized and hosted by the Confucius Institute. Out of a total of 18 contestants 8 came from South Australian schools (Walford Anglican School for Girls, Adelaide High School, St. Aloysius College, St Peters College and Trinity College Senior).
